Como el cable UTP no tiene apantallamiento, ofrece muchas ventajas, como menor coste, f\u00e1cil instalaci\u00f3n y mantenimiento. Y lo que es m\u00e1s importante, ofrece un mejor rendimiento en aplicaciones con uso intensivo de diafon\u00eda. Cada cable FTP est\u00e1 apantallado con una cinta de aluminio alrededor del conjunto para protegerlo de la interferencia electromagn\u00e9tica y la diafon\u00eda. Debido a que STP tiene un blindaje de malla adicional, que protege el cable de interferencias electromagn\u00e9ticas y elimina la diafon\u00eda, el blindaje adicional tambi\u00e9n permite STP para entregar velocidades de datos m\u00e1s altas que UTP.
